The Chinese family planning programme has been criticised for its reliance on mass female sterilisation and use of IUD to achieve its targets. It was felt that the programme did not pay enough attention to women’s fertility desires. This article looks into the different issues and themes surrounding sexual and reproductive health and rights in China such as the impact of the ICPD, information, education & communication, quality care service, choice of contraceptive methods, population education, sex education, abortion, prevention of AIDS and family planning. Read about it in Taking up the Cairo Challenge – Country Study of China.
