Public Hearing on the Quality of Care in Maternal Health in Uttar Pradesh

The event will be organized at the Rahul Preksha Griha, Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh

Timings

The event will begin at 11 am and end at 2.45 pm on 31 August (Monday) 2009

Participants

  • Panelists – Panelists will include eminent women, elected representatives (MLAs and Panchayat leaders) and local health administrators and managers

Chief Guest – Ms Shabana Azmi, former MP and award-winning film and stage actress

Distinguished Panelists – Ms Subhashini Ali (former MP and President of the Janwadi Mahila Samiti/AIDWA); Ms TK Rajalakshmi, Senior Journalist; Advocate (Ms) Shruti Pandey, human rights activist

Community - The women leaders of the Mahila Swasthya Adhikar Manch from ten districts will participate, along with large numbers of women members from Azamgarh and Mirzapur districts. Women of the Janwadi Mahila Samiti are also expected to join. There will be around 250 community women in all.

Civil Society organizations/NGOs – There will be NGO partners of the Healthwatch Forum Uttar Pradesh and the Azamgarh Healthwatch District Forum

Media – local, state level and national media are being invited to cover the event. A documentary film-maker will also be recording the entire event. 

Travel and local transport:

  • Transport is being arranged from Varanasi Airport or Railway Station to Azamgarh provided we are informed about date and time of arrival at/ departure from Varanasi.
  • For those arriving by direct train at Azamgarh railway Station, pick-up and transport to the hotel can be arranged.
  • At pick-up points there will be a person carrying a board saying AZAMGARH JAN SUNWAI in English and Hindi
  • Please contact the team leader Ms Paula, Administration Coordinator, SAHAYOG (0-94150-05162) for any help regarding pick-up/drop  arrangements and other requirements 

Stay and Food:

  • SAHAYOG will be booking rooms at a local hotel for any panelists/participants wishing or rest or freshen up.
  • Rooms will be available from the morning of 30 August to the morning of 1 Sept.
  • Please contact Ms Paula (0-94150-05162) regarding your time of arrival and departure in case you need to use a hotel room
  • Breakfast can be arranged at the hotel
  • Tea and a snack will be served during registration (10-11 am) on 31 August 2009
  • Lunch will be served at the venue around 2.30 pm on 31 August 2009
  • Drinking water will be available at the venue
