In 2005, WHRAP set up a high level task force which involved key government representatives and civil society partners. The role of the Task Force was to spearhead regional and international advocacy initiatives, and in engaging with relevant national level ministries as well as inter-governmental bodies in the Asia Pacific region. They also ensure that the WHRAP advocacy agenda, as informed by evidence from WHRAP South Asia’s initiatives, is represented and put onto the agenda of relevant South Asia-level forums and processes. They Influence local and national-level policy changes, including budget allocation and utilization, and monitoring progress towards improved maternal health conditions and young people’s sexual and reproductive health and rights (YSRHR).

At the WHRAP Advocacy Brainstorming meeting held in Port Dickson , Malaysia on 24 April 2008, participants identified South Asian Association for Regional Level Corporation (SAARC) as a significant and critical advocacy venue of the partnership project at the regional level. As such during the people’s SAARC Forum held from 18-20 July 2008 WHRAP organized a panel titled, “Towards Health for All: A South Asian Dillemma.” The panel highlighted various obstacles faced and strategies to overcoming the challenges of public health provisioning pressures for market-oriented health sector reforms. With the realization of a need to prioritize the engaging with SAARC official processes to effectively influence policies or programs at the South Asian level WHRAP Regional Task Force Members planned and coordinated a series of official engagements between SAARC Secretariat and WHRAP.
