Susanna George has worked in the field of communications since her college days, starting with a student job in the communications office of Hampshire College, Massachusetts, USA, where Susanna finished a B.A in Economics and Third World Politics. She has been involved in many different aspects of communications work in the development context and women's movement. She began with proof reading, writing and manual layout work in college and was employed to writing, editing and publishing of the newsletter of the Gender and Development Programme of the Asia Pacific Development Centre for three years. After this Susanna worked for three and a half years in a regional UNDP small grants programme, known as Asia Pacific 2000 where she was the Coordinator of Communications services, handling the networking and advocacy components as well being involved in all aspects of the publications produced there. From this she moved to being the Director of an international feminist information and communications organisation ISIS International Manila, Philippines for six years. This exposed her to having direct engagement with the regional and international advocacy campaigns on women and media as well as communication rights in the context of the UN. Since leaving ISIS, Susanna has been engaged in different projects and networks on a consultancy basis, including working as the Coordinator of the Feminist Dialogues, a process organised by 12 feminist organisations and networks from around the globe linked to the World Social Forum events. Susanna was actively engaged in local and national level activism within the Malaysian women's movement context until she left for the Philippines, and is now keen to return to feminist, social justice and environmental work and living in the Malaysian context in the coming years. Susanna is currently serving her second term as a Board member of ARROW.
